Project Description
A key component of the project is the 3.2-kilometre-long concrete immersed tunnel. At the time of its opening, it was the deepest immersed road tunnel in the world, located approximately 48 metres below sea level. It was also one of the longest immersed tunnels worldwide.
MH Poly was responsible for the complete design of the immersion pontoons used for the controlled immersion of the tunnel elements, subject to approval by Lloyd’s Register. MH Poly also designed the deck layout and the hoisting and lifting system, which were essential for positioning the tunnel elements safely and accurately during installation.
MH Poly’s Scope of Work
- Establishing the design criteria for the immersion operation;
- Designing the immersion pontoons;
- Designing the deck layout;
- Designing the hoisting and lifting system.
